To redefine freedom means to revisit, reinterpret, and expand the meaning of freedom in a way that resonates with the present and future,
addressing contemporary challenges while honoring foundational principles. It involves asking critical questions about what freedom means, who it serves, and how it can be actualized equitably in a rapidly changing society. In short, redefining freedom isn’t about discarding past ideals but expanding and evolving them to ensure they are inclusive, just, and meaningful in our current American reality. "

OUR MISSION
To reimagine, expand, and engage in a bold, inclusive conversation about American freedom—rooted in the founding principles of 1776, but responsive to the realities of today. The center will serve as a bridge, bringing together diverse voices to explore what it means to have, share, and protect freedom in an era of deep division and change.
SCOPE

Convene historians, legal scholars, social scientists, and public intellectuals to analyze the evolution of American freedom.
Develop research on how freedom has been interpreted, contested, and applied across race, class, gender, and political divides.
Publish books, articles, and reports that challenge conventional narratives and push forward a new vision of freedom.

Host town halls, forums, and summits in communities across the country to foster civil discourse.
Create media initiatives (podcasts, documentaries, and op-eds) to push these conversations into the national consciousness.
Partner with organizations and schools to introduce new frameworks for discussing civic responsibility and individual liberties.

Examine laws and policies to identify barriers to freedom (voter suppression, economic inequality, criminal justice reform, etc.).
Propose new legal frameworks that better align with an inclusive vision of freedom.
Serve as a think tank that advises policymakers on bipartisan solutions.

Commission artists, musicians, and filmmakers to interpret freedom in contemporary ways.
Use storytelling and cultural projects to engage broader audiences, making freedom a lived and felt experience.
Preserve and elevate the stories of those historically excluded from the American freedom narrative.
