Redefining Freedom Center of Virginia Issues Statement on Constitutional Crisis and the Events in Los Angeles

Leesburg, VA — The Redefining Freedom Center of Virginia expresses deep concern and grave alarm at the extraordinary events unfolding in Los Angeles, California. Reports of the arrest of a sitting United States Senator, Alex Padilla, by federal agents, and the deployment of active-duty military personnel in response to civilian protests, demand urgent national attention.

These actions represent a serious assault on the very freedoms our nation was founded to protect.

The United States Constitution is not a suggestion. It is the supreme law of the land. The deployment of troops against American citizens violates the spirit—if not the letter—of the Posse Comitatus Act, which has served for nearly 150 years as a bulwark against military interference in civilian life.

In moments like these, it is not enough to stand on the sidelines. We must reaffirm the core values that bind us together: the rule of law, equal protection under the law, freedom of expression, and the right to peacefully dissent.

At the Redefining Freedom Center, we believe that freedom is not a partisan possession. It is a shared inheritance—one that must be vigilantly guarded and courageously defended.

We call on all Americans—regardless of party or background—to respond not with violence, but with peaceful resolve, with principled protest, and with civic courage. We encourage citizens to attend lawful demonstrations, including the “No Kings” protest scheduled for June 14, 2025, following local laws and public safety guidelines.

This is a defining moment for our democracy.
Will we accept a slow erosion of our liberties—or will we rise, together, to protect them?

Let us be clear: Freedom is not a gift. It is a responsibility. And the time to meet that responsibility is now.
